The legend of the giant octopus
Le mystère du Fjord: When cider reveals the truth
In the tales of Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean fishermen, every catch has its story and every wave hides a secret. Among these legends, one still sends shivers down taverns’ spines: that of Ti-Paul.
A man of the Fjord with a sailor’s heart, Ti-Paul was known for two things: his navigational skills and his insatiable thirst for good cider. On a stormy night, he would unravel the mystery of the abyss.
The vision of l’Anse
That evening, as the wind whistled and the waves danced a jig, Ti-Paul saw the unthinkable. Forget the usual redfish. A gigantic shadow emerged from the depths: a colossal octopus!
According to him, this tentacled monster had :
Eyes as big as diving-suit portholes.
Arms capable of encircling his rowboat three times rather than once.
The build of a deep-sea guardian.
From legend to reality Joli Rouge
Back at the Port de l’Anse, his breath fragrant with cider, Ti-Paul recounted his encounter. While some laughed, the rumor persisted.
What if this red octopus wasn’t just an alcoholic mirage? At Joli Rouge, we like to think it’s real. Our tentacled mascot is a reminder of the mystery and originality we’re so proud of.
Did you know? > The legend has become so strong that the Quebec government is said to have considered the unusual idea of using this giant octopus to build the 3rd link between Quebec City and Lévis. It’s even said that the Société des Traversiers du Québec wanted to hire him as a sub-contractor, paid in unlimited barrels of Joli Rouge for his engineering services!
You never know… with a good cider in your hands, anything is possible!
