Recette de Général Tao au cidre

A must-try this winter: Our General Tao cider sauce is perfect for a successful tête-à-tête or to impress your friends.

The secret of this recipe? The use of our Joli Rouge Original cider. Its natural acidity replaces traditional vinegar. It adds a unique fruity depth to your dish.

Ingredients for General Tao Sauce (2 portions)

Here’s what you’ll need:

  • 125 ml (1/2 cup) Joli Rouge Original cider

  • 60 ml (1/4 cup) chicken broth or water

  • 2 tbsp. soy sauce

  • 2 tbsp. maple syrup (or sugar)

  • 1 tbsp. tomato paste or ketchup

  • 1 teaspoon chopped fresh ginger

  • 1 clove garlic, minced

  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch

  • Chilli flakes or Sambal Oelek (to taste)

Procedure: Quick and easy preparation

Follow these steps for a smooth, flavorful sauce.

1. Preparing the base mix

In a bowl, whisk together the cider and broth. Add soy sauce and maple syrup.

2. Add thickener

Add the cornstarch to the cold mixture. Mix well to avoid lumps.

3. Infusing flavors

Heat a small frying pan over medium heat with a little oil. Brown the garlic and ginger.

4. Cooking the sauce

Pour the liquid mixture into the pan. Add the tomato paste and chili pepper.

5. Get the syrupy texture

Bring to the boil, stirring constantly. Simmer for 2 to 3 minutes. The sauce should become syrupy.

6. Final coating

Add your favorite cooked protein to the pan. Stir to coat well.

The Joli Rouge tip for total success

If the sauce becomes too thick, don’t worry. Simply add a dash of cider to loosen it up. This will enhance the taste of the apple just before serving!

This sauce is a wonderful accompaniment to chicken, tofu or shrimp.
It’s the perfect meal for a comforting evening with friends or loved ones!
